EDLD 5363-June 22, 2013 Post Web Conference Reflection

I must say that the conferences with Dr. Abernathy are very helpful. She is so supportive of anything we do and, if we are going in the wrong direction, will definitely get us back on track to where we need to be. In addition, she also took the time and opportunity to inform us of the conference that was taking place in San Antonio of past and present Ed. Tech. students from the program. Although I could not attend, I definitely plan to be there in the near future. This conference was basically receiving more info on the group project that would take up the rest of the weeks to come. Our group was already formed prior to week 3 and, in addition, we had already agreed on a core content. Once we met with Dr. A and had a clearer understanding of what needed to be done, everyone in my group took charge and initiative on completing their tasks.

Audacity Tutorial Script

Hello and welcome to my tutorial in regards to recording and saving with the Audacity program.

Audacity is a free software for recording and editing sounds

Simply go to google and type in Audacity and it will be the first link that appears in the search engine.

Download the software according to your computer specifications

Once you have downloaded the program, you can begin to record.

If you have used a CD-Player/MP3/ or Ipod, then you can easily be able to fully use the 6 main functions in this program which are pause, play, stop, rewind, fast forward and record.

Once you are complete with your recording, you are ready to save.

Click on file, scroll down to export, type in the file name you would like to name your recording and then select the file type you would like to save it as.

I highly recommend you go with the most common ones which are WAV or MP3.

Once you click save, you have successfully saved a recording with the Audacity program.

Week 2: Discussion (10 Points) Explore Audacity and Creative Commons.

1.    Briefly comment on your experiences with downloading Audacity and the tutorials in your course Discussion Board.

Downloading Audacity was very quick, simple and easy! I honestly thought it would take so long to download, but it took about 5 minutes or less. Once I downloaded it, I immediately found a plethora of tutorial videos. My main objective was to make the tutorial as relatable and understandable for all types of people. In addition, I was also introduced to Screencast-O-Matic program. I have seen various “how to videos” use this and have always been curious as to how it was done. Screencast-O-Matic is very user-friendly and an excellent source for this tutorial video.

2.    Briefly comment on your experiences with Creative Commons in your course Discussion Board.

Creative Commons was very informative in regards to licensing one’s work. It went into detail in regards to the “layers” of licensing and on to the different types of licensing one can choose from.

EDLD 5363-Bio Script for Digital Story

Born in Mexico during the year of 1987, my parents were pursuing what The Great Gatsby calls the “American Dream”. Within 1 year of my birth, we immigrated to the land of opportunity. After several relocations between New York, California, and Texas, it was not until 1990 that we finally decided to settle down in Beaumont, Texas. It was here that I quickly attempted to adapt to both the American and Hispanic culture. Coming from a Spanish-speaking family, my English-speaking skills were very limited and thus was placed in ESL during my elementary school years. However, I quickly tested out of this program and slowly started to enroll in Honors/Advance Placement classes. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from West Brook Senior High School in 2005 and quickly began my college career at Lamar University the summer after graduation. It was during my college years that I did a lot of exploring academic-wise. I started as a Pre-Med Major, changed to Chemical Engineering, then to Mechanical Engineering and finally to Mathematics. In 2011, I graduated with a B.S. in Mathematics with a minor in Chemistry. Post-grad life was a series of trials and tribulations. Unable to obtain a decent job and constantly getting denied from numerous companies, I was able to obtain the position of Catering Coordinator for Chartwells at Lamar University. This necessarily was not my dream job, however, it paid the bills and provided food on the table. After self-exploration religiously, I decided that my calling was to teach and therefore began the process to obtain my teaching license. Although it may be easy to decide on a career, it is the expense financially that worried me. However, with the support of my family, friends and faith, I am where I am today: a fully certified 8-12 Math teacher at Central Medical Magnet High School in Beaumont, Texas. I now am currently pursuing my masters in Educational Technology as a way to motivate my younger brother and my first set of students as a first-year teacher so that we can obtain our Masters in Education in Educational Technology, Associates Degree in Computer Drafting and Design and High School Diploma, respectively.

Week 1-Post Conference Reflection

I was very thrilled to see/hear some familiar faces in this class including the professor, Dr. Abernathy whom I had the class prior to this, EDLD 5362-Info Systems Management. In addition, I saw some new faces as well. Prior to the start of the class, I already had an idea of what needed to be done for assignment 1. One thing that Dr. Abernathy stressed was to make sure and use a different program from the program we used in EDLD 5301 which was Animoto. I am always open to using new programs and exploring them. The program I used for this assignment was the Windows Live Movie Maker which I did not know I even had on my computer. Dr. Abernathy also stressed weeks 3, 4, and 5 would consist of a group project and would need to form a 3-5 member group. I felt very honored that one of my former classmates and then from there we formed out 5 member group. Although we have not approached week 3 yet, we have decided on mathematics as our core content.
